18 May 2022

The 3rd World Congress of GI Endoscopy, ENDO 2022, took place together with the 103rd Congress of the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society on May 13-15, 2022 in Kyoto, Japan. This hybrid event attracted more than 9000 participants, making it a complete success.

As an industry partner of WEO, JINSHAN contributed to adding solid content to this hybrid event by sponsoring a virtual webinar: Video Capsule Endoscopy: capsule endoscopy with artificial intelligence, sharing the expert insights and the latest advances in capsule endoscopy with the participants.

Focusing on capsule endoscopy with artificial intelligence, the virtual webinar consisted of three parts: a welcome speech, four presentations by invited speakers, and a Q&A session.

As the chair of this workshop, Dr. Jan-Francis Rey, the former president of WEO addressed a welcome speech and presented “capsule endoscopy update: improved resolution, view angle, and frame rate”, in which he emphasized the importance of improving the resolution, view angle and the frame rate as one of the main trends of the capsule endoscopy technology. He further introduced OMOM HD, the industrial leading capsule innovated by JINSHAN as an excellent example and an eye-catching update in capsule endoscopy technology.

"Robot capsule for stomach examination” was demonstrated by Dr. Zhou Juan, from the capsule endoscopy center of Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, one of the earliest teaching institutions for the clinical application of capsule endoscopy in China. Dr. Zhou shared her clinical application of the fully automated magnetically controlled capsule endoscopy (FAMCE) OMOM RC in 35 patients. She shared a video of the whole examination process and concluded that FAMCE could visualize the 6 anatomical landmarks of the stomach, offering a non-invasive, safe, and effective diagnostic gastroscopy with a pill-sized capsule.

Prof. Anastasios Koulaouzidis, a professor at Pomeranian Medical University, Department of Public Health Faculty of Health Sciences gave a lecture “Artificial intelligence in reading case”. He shared the fact that humans can become tired and distracted by reading large numbers of images for long periods of time, but AI-assisted reading, such as OMOM Vue software with features of redundancy deletion and highly sensitive lesion detection can be a very good help.

Prof. Miguel Mascarenhas-Saraiva, head of the Gastroenterology Department at CUF private Hospitals of Oporto, External Professor Instituto de Ciencias shared 5 cases with small bowel pathological findings and his experiences with the AI-powered VUE sSmart software. He spoke highly of the high sensitivity of the software. “With more cases and more cases done so far, after SmartScan, no additional pathological findings could be found by myself. I am now more confident in the AI reading”. He also recommended continuous prospective multi-center studies to support the full pre-reading by AI to save doctor's time.
